DC Area Researcher Forum to be Held on January 27, 2012

We hope that you will be able to join us for the next meeting of the Researcher Forum on Friday, January 27, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. in Room G-24 at Archives I in Washington, DC.  Archivist David Ferriero will join us for a discussion of NARA’s Citizen Archivist program.

A special feature of the program will be a demonstration of the newly launched Citizen Archivist Dashboard and the National Archives Transcription Pilot Project by Pamela Wright (NARA Chief Digital Access Strategist) and Meredith Stewart (NARA Open Government). They will answer questions and seek suggestions on these new tools, which are now available to researchers and the public.  Features of interest to NARA researchers will be discussed, including “tagging,” “transcription,” and “upload & share.”

  1. I usually attend these meetings, and would love to hear what the Archivist has to say, but I will be out of town on the 27th. I do hope is presentation will be available online.

  2. I’m with Angela and won’t be able to attend the meeting. Will the Archivist discuss hie comments in his youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MD52rimJHTc
where he discussed the concept of record groups and the notion that they are not helpful to the public for research purposes.

Thanks. I’ll look forward to the transcript.

  3. Hi Marie,
The scheduled topic the Archivist will talk about is the Citizen Archivist Dashboard. As always, we encourage questions from the participants.
    Thank you,
    Diane Dimkoff
