We’re just over halfway through this summer’s “I Found it in the National Archives” contest and have enjoyed reading the stories that have come in so far! From Rebecca Lawrence-Weden’s tale of a lighthouse, a walnut and the Great War to Wendy Griswold’s experience shedding some light on a 106-year-old family tragedy, the determination and resourcefulness shown by the Archives’ researchers continues to impress!
If you’re only just getting started with your own family’s genealogy and are looking for inspiration, check out Bonnie Medford’s essay of success in tracing an orphaned grandmother-in-law’s family back six generations to the early 1700’s. Prefer your history a little more recent? Read Stuart Leibiger’s account of finding his 10-year-old self in the stacks at the Ford Library.
