  1. The opinions expressed in the following posting are mine alone and do not reflect any position of the National Archives and Records Administration.

I’d like to applaud NARA’s continued use of such meetings that allow researcher feedback; sometimes positive and sometimes not so positive. It keeps the channels of communication open, which is healthy and simply promotes a commitment to transparency and access. However, it would help if the topics provided just a few additional details for those who work at research rooms off-site. For example, I’m not clear about the proposal to use colored paper or the proposed rule in the Federal Register.

    1. Wanda – Thanks for your feedback about the agendas for the DC-area Researchers Group meetings. For anyone who would like to know more about the meetings, minutes from each meeting are posted online at http://www.archives.gov/dc-metro/researcher-users-group/. The DC-area offices are considering using colored paper in the reference room photocopiers to help distinguish between copies and original records. This topic was first discussed at the August meeting. You can read more about it in the minutes from the August meetings. The agenda item regarding the proposed rule in the Federal Register had to do with how NARA locations decide changes to their hours. You may wish to read an earlier blog post on this topic at http://blogs.archives.gov/online-public-access/?p=1975.

The minutes from the September DC-area Researchers Group meeting should be posted on NARAtions later today if you are interested in reading about the September 29th meeting.
